Introduction
When I first started this blog, I considered creating a different image for each article.
However, I wanted to maintain a consistent look across the entire site, so I decided to use a shared featured image for each category.
I currently use the following three categories of featured images.
- IT
- Home vegetable garden
- Others
IT Category
Concept
For IT-related articles, I chose a design inspired by electronic circuits and circuit boards.
My goal was to make it immediately clear that this category focuses on technical topics.
The design is based on the following ideas:
- Circuit boards
- Electronic circuits
- Digital technology
- Technology
These are the concepts I wanted to represent.
Home Gardening Category
Concept
For home gardening articles, I chose the image of a seed sprouting.
This represents more than just growing vegetables.
“Growing little by little”
It also reflects the process of building and growing a blog over time.
Others Category
Concept
The most difficult category to define was “Others.”
Since it covers topics that are neither IT nor gardening, I needed an image that could represent a wide range of subjects.
While searching for ideas, I came across a photo of a stone cairn.
The image of carefully stacking stones one by one reminded me of:
- Building up blog articles over time
- Accumulating knowledge and experience
- Learning through trial and error while using AI
These ideas seemed to overlap with the meaning of the image.
For that reason, I chose a stone cairn image for the Others category.
Benefits of Using Consistent Images by Category
Using a fixed image for each category provided several benefits:
- A more consistent appearance across article listings
- Categories became easier to recognize
- No more hesitation when choosing images for new posts
These were some of the advantages I experienced.
I feel that design consistency becomes increasingly important as a personal blog grows.
Conclusion
Featured images are more than simple decorations; they are an important part of a blog's overall identity.
In my case:
- IT → Circuits
- Home Gardening → Sprouting Seeds
- Others → Stone Cairns
By defining these themes, I was able to create a consistent visual identity across the entire site.
I am still experimenting and learning, but I plan to continue refining the design as the blog grows.
